Parkinson’s Disease Holistic Cure

For people suffering from Parkinson’s disease, there is no holistic cure that has been conclusively proven to be effective yet. If your loved one is suffering from this disease, you do, however, have the choice of exploring your options and see which ones may at least make the life of your loved one more comfortable and easier.

Diet – There are always the “right” and “wrong” food to eat when you are suffering from a certain disease and it’s the same for Parkinson’s. This shouldn’t be surprising, however, since we exist because of food and we naturally become weak or even die without it. People suffering from Parkinson’s disease could see improvement in their conditions if they eat smaller but more frequent meals a day and increase their consumption of fiber. If the latter’s impossible for whatever reason, consider having your loved one take fiber supplements instead.

Exercise – Like food, exercise is also a vital element of having excellent health and this is especially true when you are suffering from Parkinson’s disease. With regular exercises – of the right kind, of course – people suffering from this will have less difficulties maintaining control of their movements, balance, mobility, and even their emotions! Generally, any physical activity is ideal. If it’s of the strength-building type then so much the better! Affected individuals should however be conscious of not overtaxing yourself as exhaustion can cause them to become less careful and at this point, even the smallest accident can cause great complications.

People suffering from Parkinson’s disease often chafe at their helplessness in overcoming their condition. With a simple Parkinson’s disease holistic cure like diet and exercise, however, they are given something concrete to do and work on and consequently make them feel that they’re doing something about their condition.

Parkinsons Disease Treatments

There is still no cure for Parkinsons disease but there are Parkinsons disease treatments available today to reduce the severity of its symptoms.

Doctors generally advise patients to have a combination of Parkinsons disease treatments such as medications coupled with therapy. Physical therapy is necessary because it enables the patient to retain his mobility and control over his muscles in spite of the usual tremors and other physical symptoms of Parkinsons disease. Speech therapy is, on the other hand, also necessary to combat difficulties with speaking and swallowing, two of the most well-known symptoms of the disease.

Different medications are used for treating Parkinsons disease. Over time, you might be asked to change your medication as it loses its effectiveness or increase its dosage. Because of this, it’s extremely crucial that you do not cease consulting with your doctor in a regular basis. Medications used for treating Parkinsons disease include Coenzyme Q10, amantadine, anticholigernics, COMT inhibitors, selegiline, dopamine agonists, and levodopa and carbidopa.

Surgery may be necessary in rare cases. It was a more common treatment in the past but advance medications have made surgery a last resort or option for patients of Parkinsons disease. Surgeries used for treating Parkinsons disease are thalmotomy, pallidotomy, and deep brain stimulation.

In most cases, the introductory use of Parkinsons disease treatments can produce dramatic results. But with the passage of time, these treatments unfortunately become less effective and consistent. Nevertheless, loved ones still shouldn’t lose hope as continuous support can go a long way in helping the affected individual continue living a normal life as much as possible.

Bodywork therapy can provide tremendous relief to people suffering from a multitude of diseases, Parkinson’s disease being one of them. Parkinson’s disease, also called Parkinsonism, is a disorder of the central nervous system, and results in involuntary movements of the body. The disease results from the degeneration of dopamine-producing nerve cells in the brain. Some symptoms include tremors, slow movement, rigidity, and poor balance. Since western medicine has yet to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease, many people are turning to various forms of alternative treatment methods for relief, including massage therapy.

Although massage therapy is not to be considered a cure for Parkinson’s disease, it can offer valuable therapeutic symptom relief. Many people suffering with this disease experience severe muscle pain and tightness, which can be alleviated with manual therapy. If you are already working with, or are thinking of working with a client who has Parkinson’s disease, make certain you are aware of ALL medications they may be taking, as there may be serious massage contraindications present. Many medications prescribed for those with Parkinson’s disease often have side effects that can deter certain forms of massage from being performed. It is also important when working with these clients that you maintain close contact with their physicians.

You may need to alter your normal massage session slightly to better accommodate your Parkinson’s patient, but the results will prove worth the effort. Studies have shown that receiving regular massage treatments can reduce tremors and improve overall daily functioning, which is a huge triumph for someone with Parkinson’s disease. Your clients will be grateful for helping them reduce their frustrating symptoms, making massage therapy an ideal form of treatment.
