I’m a neuroscience student, so this isn’t personal experience, but Parkinson’s is caused by cell death in the substantia nigra, which produce dopamine and signal voluntary movement. Its is characterised by tremors in the earliest stage and loss of motor function. Patients describe the sensations as knowing what they want their body to do but not having its respond properly, or as quickly. I hope this helps and your loved one does not have this illness. The best of luck.

Question posed by 7 W: Why do Doctors give blood tests for lead poisoning when lead doesn’t stay in the blood ?
If lead only stays in the blood for up to 72 hours and then it moves out of the body or to the bones, and organs, why do Doctors only take blood tests? Blood tests only show recent exposure to lead and may be good for children eating paint chips but…why not test the bones or organs?
What can be done for an adult who has been exposed to lead?
Are there any studies done about heavy metals (lead) causing Parkinson’s disease?
thanks,

If they can’t find certain things in your blood they’ll need another sample of blood to test it for something else.

When it comes to parkinson’s disease this video provides some great insights.

Columbus Dispatch Outs “The Terrible Teabagger”: bit.ly COLUMBUS – In a scene reminiscent of non-violent civil rights confrontations from the 1960s, Ohio Tea Partiers quickly turned ugly when facing off with health care advocates in front of Ohio Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy’s office Tuesday. In shocking video taken by a Columbus Dispatch reporter Doral Chenowith yesterday, Tea Party protestors mock a seated counter-protestor with a sign indicating he has Parkinson’s disease. They then proceed to hurl wadded up bills at him shouting, “I’ll decide when to give you money!” On March 17th outside of Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy’s (D-OH15) district office teabaggers mocked and scorned a man who had a sign stating that he had Parkinson’s. They told him “he’s in the wrong end of town to ask for handouts”, called him a communist and threw dollar bills at him to “pay for his health care”.

BP Shows Signs of Human Disease?

A question from Whitney: BP shows signs of human disease?
it may be a a little far fetched but he shows all symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, a resting tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity and postural instability. Not really positive of his age ive had him about a year, hes about 2 1/2 feet. eats really well, about 3 hoppers every 5/6 days. and sheds regularly. ive noticed it mostly when he unravels his prey. and during the course of his meal. but also while hes exploring his cage. should i be concerned? is there anything i could do to help him?

It sounds like one of two things: IBD (Inclusion Body Disease) or a neurological problem. IBD is highly contagious to other pythons and boas, so if you have other snakes you need to practice strict quarantine NOW. This is a fatal disease. It cannot be cured and almost always ends in death. Here is a website all about IBD:

http://www.anapsid.org/ibd.html

I’d recommend taking the snake to a reptile vet and having tests run on your snake.

Is this snake a Spider color/morph ball python? Spiders tend to have neurological problems called a wobble, which is why I ask. If not, it could be some other neuro problem unrelated to the spider gene. If the snake has ever been in too high of temps for too long, this can cause brain damage. Sometimes it is temporary and sometimes it is permanent.

The vet can help you determine the problem, and that is really the only thing you can do other than just watch him continue to be that way, or miraculously get better on his own. Just do not let him come in contact with other pythons/boas until you know 100% it isn’t IBD. Good luck.

Can Dopamine Be Purchased Over the Counter?

A question from CrG: Can dopamine be purchased over the counter?
Produced by the brain, it occurs naturally in the young and decreases with age causing Parkinson’s disease and other nervous system diseases. Generic prescriptions cost $ .25 a pill. Can it be purchased for less? I am taking it for Restless Leg Syndrome which usually begins in the early evening every day.
