It is like someone who has parkinsons disease would do I guess would be a better way to explain it. He dont do it for long but it is pretty scary. It is kinda of like he his cold or scared maybe, but the rest of his body dont shiver. When I cover him up or scratch behind his ears he stops. Any advice? I am very paranoid about everything my animals do that dont seem normal. Am I just being over paranoid or what?
Thanx everyone for their advice you guys are all great. I do need to add that he is not shaking his head like he does when he is wet or just “shaking off” ( I know that dont sound right and probably dont make sense either) anyways it is like he is shaking his head “NO” but not moving his neck to much. Maybe that explains it a little better, anyways maybe I’m still being paranoid huh? Thanx again to everyone who answered.Keep ‘em coming!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teaching Yoga for Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease affects motor and speech skills and is characterized by muscle rigidity and tremors. This degenerative disease is also chronic, meaning life long and progressively crippling.

People with Parkinson’s disease appear stooped and move slowly as the disease progresses. Age is a factor, as is evidenced by a great deal of the older population showing symptoms. Their walk is often a shuffling gait with very short steps. The person has trouble lifting their feet. Arms don’t move, or move little, when the person is walking. Range of movement is impaired and their hands shake. This palsy is the most telltale sign of Parkinson’s.

Other symptoms that develop can be even more debilitating. Problems with speech, and swallowing, cause an inability to communicate. Fatigue and depression are present in nearly half of Parkinson’s cases. Parkinson’s disease affects distal muscles first (muscles farthest from the body, like hands and feet). As the disease progresses, proximal, or the muscles closer to the trunk of the body, become affected.

This disease often is attributed to having no cause. Some factors can play a role, such as head trauma, drug use, toxins, or genetic predisposition. While there are several pharmaceuticals on the market, some of them seem to become counter-productive, but there are new and encouraging development trials.

At present, there doesn’t seem to be a break-through drug to stop the advancement of Parkinson’s disease. However, physical activity and therapy can alleviate some symptoms. The more the body and mind are active, and work together, the more successful treatments are for patients. Yoga works to unify the mind, body, and spirit.

Yoga practice engages the mind and clarifies focus. In the process, the postures, breathing, and movement, stimulate the nervous system and improve health. Pharmaceuticals, in conjunction with Yoga practice, seem to be the best option for students with Parkinson’s disease.

In a recent ten year long study, almost 150,000 people were followed to find out whether regular exercise may greatly lessen predisposition to Parkinson’s disease. We’re not talking about low intensity exercise like relaxing walks in the park, though. This study looked at people in their early 60s engaged in various physical activities. Some did do light exercise like dancing and walking, others took part in moderate to more energetic exercises such as jogging, aerobics, tennis, swimming, and other activities which raise the heart rate.

The study found that out of the 150,000 people, around 400 people had developed Parkinson’s disease at the end of the ten year study. Broadly speaking, the Parkinson’s cases were by and large the ones who engaged in the lightest activities. Of course, this does not tell us how many of them would have developed Parkinson’s with no exercise, or if they had exercised heavily, but it does point out an interesting trend.

A further association between Parkinson’s disease and exercise was that the more strenuous the schedule of physical activity, the less likelihood someone had for developing the disease. This is not saying that a lighter exercise schedule can cause Parkinson’s, other factors play a role in developing the disease.

Case in point, someone may have genetic predispositions to the disease or may have been exposed to environmental toxins, pesticides or head trauma at an earlier time in their life. All these have been pointed to as risk factors for higher propensity to it. Exercise merely appears to lower risks across the board, even in those who otherwise have a propensity for it.

As the researchers hastened to comment, exercise is no panacea for avoiding the disease, but is one point in your favor in lowering risk. Scientists still do not agree as to why the more vigorous exercise has better risk reducing affects; some theorize endorphins created by the physical activity could account for a large part of the lowered risk.

The best exercise program for lowering Parkinson’s disease risk would be about 10 to 12 hours per week of moderate to vigorous exercise. It can be anything that raises the heart rate, be it is swimming, bicycling, power walking, or jumping rope. No specific exercise was better than others in the study. It was the workout’s intensity and the amount of time spent that made the difference, not the type of activity.

I watched the PBS show “Secret life of the brain”, and there is apparently a ‘beta-amyloyd’ vaccine that prevents neurological disorders. It has been tested and shows that it prevents Alzheimer’s, and possibly other neurological disorders like Parkinsons disease, etc. Where can I get it?

Also, I saw on the news that there is a herbal concoction that removes the cellular waste that stays in your blood cells when they divide. It was described as the bodies rust, and scientists typically use the amount of this type of cellular waste in your blood cells to determine how old your body is. Anyone know the herb mix that removes those? Supposedly one mixed pill a month makes you have baby aged blood. If not, anyone know the name of the cellular waste that is tested from the blood to see what the age of the person is?
