Are There Any Statistics on the % of Cigarette Smokers That Don’t Develop Health Problems?

Um, doesn’t almost EVERYONE develop a health problem, related to smoking or not?
No, they all died before the studies were complete, LOL!
Well, if you take the percentage of smokers that DO develop health problems (related to smoking) and subtract that number from 100, you have the percentage of smokers that DON’T develop health problems related to smoking.
I do smoke, and am always trying to quit……okay I am an idiot so having said that…….the truth is if you smoke and live long enough, you will at the very least be on oxygen with emphysema……..very least.
you can look at all of the stats you want, it really does depend on the person. my grandmother is 76 years old and has been smoking Marlboro Red 100′s since she was 17 years old and has no health problems.
my boyfriend’s dad is 74 and has never had a cigarette in his life and has heart disease. go figure.
I don’t know the answer, but I’ve always wondered about that kind of info too. I smoked for over 25 yrs. I had to quit 1 yr ago after having 2 very bad asthma attacks in 1 day, I should have quit a long time before that, but I didn’t. I know, stupid! But it still bothers me about the info they are always telling everyone, it seems like they try to make it all sound much worse to scare people. Some of it doesn’t make sense, like when they say people who don’t smoke, but are around people who do smoke, are at a bigger risk of getting cancer then the smoker is because the smoker has the filter on the cigarette that takes out some of the bad things, but the air the nonsmoker breathes is not filtered. But smokers breath the same air as the other people do plus they smoke the cigarette, so wouldn’t the smoker still have more of a risk? It doesn’t make sense. I know smoking is bad for you, but if they were better at giving out acurate info maybe people would listen more. I never felt like they were being fair with the studies on smoking related illnesses. I don’t smoke anymore, but it still bothers me how badly smokers are treated. If drug abusers are treated like they have an illness, then shouldn’t smokers be treated the same way? Nobody smokes really because they just want to, they just can’t stop, it’s too hard!
