It might have nothing to do with Parkinson’s disease. I wold check into what is called HYPERHIDROSIS. Talk to your doctor about this

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a secondary symptom of Parkinson’s disease. While it is possible for the cause to be other than your PD, the chances are it is related either to the disease or as a side effect of a medication you are taking. As you know, skin changes and problems, dry skin, oily skin, sweating too little or too much are all symptoms of PD.

Not knowing what your medications are, it is possible that sweating occurs because of “wearing off” of medications. Depending upon what you are eating – higher animal protein which can interfer with levodopa – it is possible that the act of eating triggers an interference which causes the wearing off effect. The study abstract linked below found: “that sweating fluctuates in conjunction with wearing-off phenomenon.”

The article at the next site is very helpful and explains what you want to know. In it you will also find some suggestions: drinking plenty of fluids and adjusting medications. This is a problem that you can discuss with your neurologist. If you are on levodopa/carbidopa, you might want a controled-release version. As a matter of fact, more controlled release or timed release forms are being developed now to alleviate wearing off times. The article also suggests a COMT addition. You might want to discuss Stalevo with your doctor.

Hyperhydrosis itself is sweating beyond the body’s need to cool itself. Certainly stress or tension can cause sweating as can exercise which would probably include eating.

So take a look at the sympathetic nervous system to see its role in persipration and adrenaline:

Occasionally anticholinergics are used to block the acetylcholine receptors in order to attain a better homeostasis between the diminished dopamine firing and acetylcholine. I wouldn’t have my husband who has PD ask his doctor for an anticholinergic unless there were no other less risky solutions.
