Hello asked:
I love to drink coffee because it wakes me up and helps start my day off. What I’m trying to figure out is that although I know coffee can help prevent diabetes and parkinsons disease, it can also cause some bone loss. So I’m wondering if there is a specific kind of coffee that i don’t have to go to starbucks or some coffee store that i can find in a grocery market that actually has some good vitamins in it??? Maybe a brand that is more pure and natural?? Please help.

Just try to get coffee grown without pesticides. Buy some organic coffee. There are few in the markets, otherwise you may have to go to a specialty shop. Green Mountain and Newman’s Own may be in your market, or Caffe Ibis. Go to a health food store, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s or a co-op. They should carry organic free trade coffees.
I’ve heard of antioxidants and some enzymes in coffee but not vitamins.
Newman’s Own has a good organic coffee brand and the best thing about it is that its fair trade. So it’s not really going to be healthier, but it is going to be helping the hundreds of thousands of people who pick, process, and package the beans. I’d just get your vitamins from other foods throughout the day. Just b/c coffee can cause some bone loss doesn’t mean you have to necessarily replace the mineral loss with the coffee, just consume nutrient rich foods throughout the rest of the day. A couple of cups of coffee per day is actually a great metabolism booster, just don’t weigh it down with tons of heavy cream and sugar. A little skim milk and you’re good to go!
