Ya,I told my uncle I would go to this site & ask in case maybe anybody else has the same problem or has any idea what it could be.He’s been to the doctor who all say it’s in his head(as there is nothing wrong inside him)he’s taken prescription pills, seen a therapist & is now even seeing a hypnotist. That isn’t working either. This frustrates him to where he struggles to get the first word out that he starts shaking & breathes heavily. He was also diagnosed with parkinsons disease. He is I believe 62 years old.If you have any suggestions or things he can try that he hasn’t,no matter how ridiculous they may sound,he is up for trying so please post for any kind of help.Thank-you.

I am a kindergarten teacher and when students are attempting to read a word I will tell them to get their mouth ready: meaning concentrate on the first sound and get your mouth shaped correctly to make that sound.
Also, closing your eyes momentaritly while doing the above will help.
If he doesn’t have a history of stuttering as a child, and the onset of this speech problem is recent, he may have suffered a mild stroke or have some other neurological pathology or illness working here. If the diagnosis of Parkinson’s is certain, that can be a contributing factor, certainly.
He needs to see a specialist, and since speech deficits very frequently are caused by neurological problems of one sort or another, that strikes me as the most logical etiology.
I have the same problem although I am not that old. I would say it is a speech problem that might can be worked on. Over the years I have found out that the more I speak the better I get. Hope this helps.
i would suggest a website called tbi.org..its a website for traumatic brain injury…theres alot of people that have this issue its for people who care for or have taken care of someone with traumatic brian injuries..and ways to work around what you are saying…i cant tell you whats happened but their is alot of nice people who talk about the same issue and can help …try it what will it hurt until you find out whats going on..like someone stated it can be a stroke or alot of different issues..but you feel better after going to the website stated..
