Because i can and who’s going to stop me? Honestly.
‘cuz alcoholics are friggin’ QUITTERS !!! …quitters, I tell ya!
I ain’t no alcoholic… alcoholics go to meetings!! …I’m just a friggin’ DRUNK!
Sometimes alcoholics are bullies and people get scared of that.
because it is their fault
sorry we are all alcoholics! cheers!
cuz there jealous ofu and they suck
I think society has come a long way in this regard. After all, the American people elected a President who is both mentally challenged *and* an alcoholic.
Because they dont understand what it is to be an alcoholic. And they can’t because alcohol doesnt do for them what it does for an alcholic.
It would be like trying to explain the color green to a blind man.
Because they do not understand. When people don’t understand something they think by crititizing it, they are justified.
Oh, boy, someone even has to bring politics into this
one. Good Grief.
Alcoholism is a disease and I know someone who
went through it and is now going to Alcoholics
Anonymous. I do not make fun of them.
Although if you are serious, why are you going
buuuuurrrrrp? It is really not funny.
However, please excuse me if I do like to drink wine
every now and then and I mean it’s every now and then.
I have never ever been addicted to anything, not even
Yahoo Answers, I can even stay off here for awhile.
Alcoholism is a sifestyle choice. Alcoholics & other drug addicts CHOSE to start using drugs or start drinking. I have no sympathy for them. I think everyone deserves a second chance & if you are willing to give up & stay clean & sober then good for you but if you choose to keep drinking or using then you are a good for nothing waste of skin draining our public health system of valuable resources.
I think because most alcoholics choose to drink and other’s with Parkinsons and that are blind, do not choose that. Some people have alcoholism in their blood I beleive. Like if they were concieved while one of their parent’s wher ein fact an alcoholic. My father was an alcoholic but a wonderful father and amazing provider and always held a job and took care of us. However he cured himself through AA. I never looked down on him or any other alcoholic. How dare me jusge another individual?
Take Care!
Some people believe that alchoholism is a choice, not a disease. They think that you can just stop at any time, they’re just too lazy ar don’t care. Others know better. My uncle is an alchoholic, and I know how difficult it was for him to get sober. He went to meetings, though, and he’s doing an amazing job. I’m really proud of him, as is the rest of my family. Alchoholism isn’t something you can just turn on and off. You have to learn to control it and, using Robin Williams’s idea, you have to be afraid of it. The minute you lose that fear, you relapse.
Are you drunk,I don’t think people look down on you its probably because you just didn’t make any sense and maybe you smell bad.If not there despicable people *buuurrrpppp*
A straight forward no bullshit answer:
Because acholholics are often perceived to be men more often than not.
Everywhere around you, men are the scapegoat for all societal ills. Why? Men, particularly white, are the only group that are currently Not classed as a special interest group.
And we all know that talking badly about anyone in a special interest group (except radical islams) is considered a Nono. This is called Political correctness. (substituting the truth with BS.)
Eg, Women, blacks, disabled, retarded, and so forth – you cannot say anything negative about them, or you’re labelled a bigot, or a hater.
And the “Alcohal is a choice” argument doesn’t work either. Prostitutes, drug users, and all other groups that include a high number of women/gays etc – Who have a choice are exhonerated from this negative stereotype because their special interest status kicks in and they’re considered Victims.
When we think of a drunk – we think of drool sliding over Homers face while Barney’s head slouched over the bar while he’s burping.
Most are unaware the pain and suffering people endure that drives them to drink. It is a very serious illness, and not to be treated lightly.
The same reason why people point and insist of pointing and laughing at little people, fat people, pretty much anyone that has some kind of disability or noticeable disease. Most people don’t realize addiction is a disease. For some reason people think addicts wake up one morning decide to become that way(THEY DON’T)…. the good thing addiction and be helped unlike ignorant close minded people. If people open there eyes, minds and hearts and realized that addiction is a disease people would be more likely to get help because there wont be such a stigma to treatment programs.
*skye babe-do some research get some facts*
it depends on the situation cuz there are two types of alcoholics. one is realy chill and has a few beers every night to relax and i think theyre the kind that are the fine. the second is the worthless low life people who are so desperate to get drunk they would rather spend money on beer then bills and that when it crosses the line.
People shouldnt make fun of them but being an alcoholic and being mentally challanged is two different things. People can help them selfs if they choose to. You don’t have to be an alcoholic or drugs addict. There isnt much you can do about being retarded.
No, alcoholism is not a disease, that is just an excuse.
A disease is not something that a person does to him or herself. Alcoholism IS.
To answer you immediate question, alcoholics are looked down on and unsupported because for one they feel sorry enough for themselves and two they don’t care about anything or anybody.
I base this opinion on first hand knowledge and experience. Alcoholics are hopeless cases. They do not Want to get better.
Alcohol addiction is not looked down on, but the alcoholic behavior is socially unaccptable as are many mental (sociopath), physical (HIV), and spiritual diseases (suicide).
Get back to AA.
Common people does not understand that it is a sickness all they know is that people with this sickness are just plain old drunks.
Its more like a problem, a bad habit, then a disease. No one is born alcoholics.
