A question asked by Rose1544: Can a dog have Parkinson’s disease?
I have a 5 month old female puggle. Last night she began to shake her head as if she had Parkinson’s disease. This is the second time this happened. The first time was also at night but she returned to normal the next day. This time there were additional symptoms. She had a hard time standing, her legs were weak. She vomitted and later peed on her self. What is wrong with my baby? Can anyone offer any advice.

Answer by tiger_cutie2000 Sounds like the dog had a siezure. In any case you are going to have to go to your vet for further blood work. Small dogs have anxiety anyway and tend to shake because of it. but the other siymptoms? She was unable to react and lost all control over her muscles, so sounds like siezures.

Answer by pearlmar I saw this online:
“Choices about medications made early in the course of the disease have a strong impact on the long-term course of the illness. Therefore, you should seek the advice of doctors specially trained in treating Parkinson’s disease (called movement disorders specialists) even when the illness is only suspected. Movement disorders specialists are doctors who have completed their training in neurology (brain and nerve problems) and have received special advanced training in treating Parkinson’s disease and other related diseases.”
I don’t know where you live in GA but I know they have some of these specialists at Emory in Atlanta.

Answer by Rogue I’m a neuroscience student, so this isn’t personal experience, but Parkinson’s is caused by cell death in the substantia nigra, which produce dopamine and signal voluntary movement. Its is characterised by tremors in the earliest stage and loss of motor function. Patients describe the sensations as knowing what they want their body to do but not having its respond properly, or as quickly. I hope this helps and your loved one does not have this illness. The best of luck.
A question from Whitney: BP shows signs of human disease?
it may be a a little far fetched but he shows all symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, a resting tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity and postural instability. Not really positive of his age ive had him about a year, hes about 2 1/2 feet. eats really well, about 3 hoppers every 5/6 days. and sheds regularly. ive noticed it mostly when he unravels his prey. and during the course of his meal. but also while hes exploring his cage. should i be concerned? is there anything i could do to help him?

Answer by Abby It sounds like one of two things: IBD (Inclusion Body Disease) or a neurological problem. IBD is highly contagious to other pythons and boas, so if you have other snakes you need to practice strict quarantine NOW. This is a fatal disease. It cannot be cured and almost always ends in death. Here is a website all about IBD:
http://www.anapsid.org/ibd.html
I’d recommend taking the snake to a reptile vet and having tests run on your snake.
Is this snake a Spider color/morph ball python? Spiders tend to have neurological problems called a wobble, which is why I ask. If not, it could be some other neuro problem unrelated to the spider gene. If the snake has ever been in too high of temps for too long, this can cause brain damage. Sometimes it is temporary and sometimes it is permanent.
The vet can help you determine the problem, and that is really the only thing you can do other than just watch him continue to be that way, or miraculously get better on his own. Just do not let him come in contact with other pythons/boas until you know 100% it isn’t IBD. Good luck.
